Three College Students Killed in Bay Area Cybertruck Crash; Investigation Ongoing
Tragedy struck the Piedmont community early Wednesday morning when a fatal Cybertruck crash claimed the lives of three college students and left a fourth hospitalized. The victims, all 2023 graduates of Piedmont High School, had reportedly returned to the Bay Area for Thanksgiving week.
Incident Details
The crash occurred near Hampton Road and King Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. A cellphone’s automatic collision alert notified Piedmont Police, who arrived to find the vehicle “fully engulfed in flames,” according to a police statement. A passerby was able to rescue the lone survivor, but the intense fire prevented access to the other occupants.
Remembering the Victims
- Soren Dixon: A sophomore at the University of Southern California, Dixon was pursuing a degree in biological sciences and was a member of USC’s club lacrosse team. His family described him as someone who “lit up a room, made friends easily, smiled and laughed often, and had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued.”
- Krysta Tsukahara: A sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Tsukahara was remembered for her compassion and creativity. Her family said she was “known for her kind and sensitive heart, love for her family and friends, and for her incredible eye for style and design.”
- Jack Nelson: A sophomore at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Nelson was described by his family as deeply caring and loyal. “More than anything, Jack cared deeply for other people, was a loving and fiercely loyal friend, and had a strong faith he proudly shared through the cross he wore every day.”
Investigation Underway
The California Highway Patrol and Piedmont Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that the Cybertruck jumped a curb before becoming wedged between a tree and a retaining wall, which severely damaged the front of the vehicle. Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers indicated that speed was likely a contributing factor.
The Piedmont community is mourning the loss of these young lives, while the investigation seeks to uncover further details about the tragic accident.
