Former “Who’s the Boss?” Star Danny Pintauro Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Thanksgiving Scooter Accident
Danny Pintauro, best known for playing Jonathan Bower on the beloved sitcom “Who’s the Boss?”, was hospitalized following a scooter accident on Thanksgiving night that led to a life-threatening stomach injury.
Pintauro shared his ordeal in an emotional Instagram post, recounting how the accident occurred when his bike lane was suddenly obstructed by cones, forcing him to choose between colliding with a van or a pylon. Opting for the pylon, he suffered scrapes on his arm and initially thought he might have broken it. However, the real trouble surfaced two days later when severe chest and abdominal pain left him struggling to breathe.
His husband, Wil Tabares, drove him to the hospital, where doctors discovered that the impact had caused a tear in his stomach lining. This led to an infection and the escape of air and stomach acid into his abdomen. Pintauro underwent emergency surgery to repair the tear, describing the pain as “the most excruciating” he’d ever experienced.
A Close Call
Reflecting on the seriousness of the situation, Pintauro acknowledged, “If I had waited any longer, I could have died.” He credited his body for signaling that something was wrong and emphasized the importance of listening to such warnings.
Recovery and Gratitude
Post-surgery, Pintauro shared that the procedure went well, although he remains sore and is unable to eat or drink for three days to allow his stitches to heal. He expressed gratitude to his husband for his unwavering support and to the medical team at Memorial Care Miller Hospital. He also thanked fans for their understanding as he adjusts shipping dates for his Book Nooks project due to the delay.
A Look Back
Pintauro rose to fame alongside Tony Danza, Judith Light, Alyssa Milano, and Katherine Helmond on “Who’s the Boss?” during its eight-season run from 1984 to 1992. Though he largely stepped away from acting after the series, he recently appeared in “The Quarantine Bunch” (2020) and “A Country Christmas Harmony” (2022).
Despite the traumatic experience, Pintauro remains positive, even jokingly inviting fans to send him flowers: “Lol, just kidding. I’m stressed, hungry, in pain, and exhausted. Light a candle for me, okay?”
We wish Danny Pintauro a swift and smooth recovery.
