Whoopi Goldberg Criticizes Democrats for Hunter Biden Pardon Backlash
On The View, Whoopi Goldberg delivered a fiery response to Democrats criticizing President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, over gun and tax charges. Goldberg defended Biden’s authority to issue pardons and admonished fellow Democrats for “clutching their pearls” and attacking their own party.
Goldberg’s comments came in response to criticism from several Democrats, including Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Michael Bennett (D-CO), who called the pardon “hurtful” and a potential “gift” to President-elect Donald Trump.
Whoopi’s Argument for Biden’s Decision
Goldberg argued that as president, Biden has the unquestionable right to issue pardons, emphasizing, “He doesn’t have to explain to anybody.” She added, “If he wants to pardon Bozo the Clown, he can pardon Bozo the Clown.”
She accused critics of hypocrisy, saying Democrats cannot claim to uphold moral values while undermining their own leadership. “You can’t have it both ways,” Goldberg said, highlighting the party’s stance on progressive issues like migrant, women’s, LGBTQ+, and trans rights.
Warning Against Party Infighting
Goldberg expressed concern over Democrats publicly turning on each other, calling it a “big problem.” She urged unity, stating, “Either we are this party and we fight for these things… or you don’t. But you don’t go out and chew up other Democrats.”
Her remarks echoed ongoing debates within the party over strategy and messaging, particularly as Democrats navigate contentious issues and political divisions leading into Trump’s second presidential term.
