Demi Moore Shares Heartfelt Update on Bruce Willis’ Health Amid Dementia Battle
Demi Moore, 62, has provided an emotional update on her ex-husband Bruce Willis’ health, confirming that the Hollywood icon, 69, is “in a very stable place at the moment.” In a candid interview with CNN, Moore emphasized the importance of meeting individuals with dementia “where they’re at” to find moments of love and joy amid the challenges.
Bruce Willis, known for his legendary roles in Die Hard and The Sixth Sense, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in February 2023, following his retirement from acting due to aphasia. The rare brain disorder affects speech, comprehension, and eventually broader cognitive functions.
A Family United in Support
Willis’ family—including his wife Emma Heming Willis, their two daughters (Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10), and his three daughters with Moore—have rallied around him with unwavering support. In October, Heming Willis spoke about the complexities of explaining Willis’ diagnosis to their young daughters, saying she avoids sugarcoating the situation but focuses on educating them.
“They know that Daddy’s not going to get better,” Heming Willis shared, adding that maintaining hope and resilience is key. “Bruce wouldn’t want FTD to take our whole family down.”
Heming revealed that Willis’ condition initially seemed tied to his childhood stutter, masking the early signs of dementia. The family worked closely with therapists to address the changes and support their daughters’ understanding of the disease.
Demi Moore’s Reflections
Moore has expressed both grief and gratitude during this journey, noting the profound beauty that can emerge despite the hardship. At the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival, she reflected on the importance of acceptance:
“When you’re holding on to what was, I think it’s a losing game. But when you show up to meet them where they’re at, there is great beauty and sweetness.”
Her sentiments echo those of her daughter, Tallulah, who shared in a September interview that their father is surrounded by “so much love,” and the family treasures every moment they have together.
Raising Awareness for FTD
Willis’ family has been vocal about the need for greater awareness and research on FTD, which is the most common form of dementia for people under 60. In a February statement, they highlighted the lack of available treatments and Willis’ lifelong commitment to helping others.
“Bruce always believed in using his voice to help others and raise awareness about important issues,” the statement read. “We hope media attention can shine a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.”
Despite the challenges, Moore, Heming Willis, and their blended family continue to provide steadfast care and love, showing a united front in their efforts to honor Willis’ legacy while navigating his health battle.
