The expert defended his theory by pointing out that the assassin “knew too much.”
A law enforcement expert has put forth a shocking theory regarding the assassination of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, Brian Thompson, suggesting that he may have orchestrated his own death for “insurance purposes.” This surprising theory was presented by Neill Franklin, a seasoned law enforcement veteran with 34 years of experience, during a CNN interview on Friday.
The interview, hosted by Dana Bash, began with a question about whether Franklin believed that law enforcement officials knew the identity of the assassin. Franklin responded that there was a high likelihood that they did. However, he then presented his unsettling theory regarding the potential motive behind the killing.
“I want to say something else that I know these criminal investigators are looking into as it relates to motive,” Franklin said. “There have been times when people have orchestrated their own demise for certain reasons. We know that.” Franklin then elaborated, speculating that Thompson’s death could have been strategically planned. When asked if insurance purposes could have played a role, Franklin agreed, acknowledging that it was a possibility.
“Absolutely. Insurance purposes, you know, maybe they fear some type of investigation down the road. Maybe they want to leave their family in a good light. But there have been cases where people have orchestrated their own demise,” Franklin explained.
Franklin’s theory was based on the suspicious circumstances surrounding the assassination. He pointed out that the assassin seemed to possess highly specific knowledge about Thompson’s movements, something that would be difficult to obtain without insider information. “He was laying in wait. Who would have that specific type of information as to what sidewalk he was going to be on?” Franklin questioned.
The tragic incident took place just days earlier, when Thompson was shot and killed outside a Hilton hotel in Manhattan on Tuesday. As of Friday, law enforcement authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing. Despite the authorities’ efforts, the search for Thompson’s killer is still progressing at a “steady pace.” This theory, however, has raised more questions about the true motive behind the tragic death of the CEO, and it remains to be seen whether this wild theory holds any weight in the ongoing investigation.
