San Diego Man Fatally Attacked by Three XL Bully Dogs at Playground
A man tragically lost his life on Friday afternoon after being savaged by his three XL bully dogs at Mesa Viking Neighborhood Park in San Diego, California.
The horrifying attack unfolded in front of a child accompanying the victim, who, fortunately, was unharmed. Locals rushed to help, using spades and golf clubs in a desperate effort to stop the dogs, but the man succumbed to his injuries. Torn clothing and a shoe were later found at the scene.
Witness Accounts and Police Response
San Diego resident Steve Marto, whose home is near the park, initially mistook the commotion for a police pursuit. Speaking to Nexstar’s KSWB/KUSI, he described the dogs as “massive muscle” and said: “I thought it was a person at first because they were talking about setting up a perimeter.”
Another resident expressed confusion over the ownership of such large and powerful dogs, stating: “I don’t understand why someone would want to have three dogs that size. You’re just looking for a problem, in my opinion.”
San Diego Police Department officers responded to the emergency call around noon, finding the man still under attack. Sgt. Matthew Hone recounted: “The officer was able to break up the dogs. They fled, and the injured male was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.”

Search and Safety Measures
The attack prompted a large-scale response, including the use of drones to track the dogs, which had scattered after the incident. Two of the dogs were quickly captured, but authorities secured nearby Ericson Elementary School during the search for the third animal, later found at the victim’s residence close to the park.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet disclosed the victim’s identity or the fate of the dogs involved in the attack. The incident has left the community shaken, sparking concerns over the ownership and control of such potentially dangerous animals.
