Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Christmas Day to wish a “Merry Christmas to all,” but his holiday message quickly turned into a wide-ranging commentary on global politics, national security, and domestic issues. The president-elect began by extending his holiday greetings but swiftly shifted to expressing concerns about the Panama Canal, accusing China of illegal operations in the area. He referred to the canal’s construction, emphasizing the sacrifice of 38,000 lives over 110 years ago, and criticized the current situation, claiming that despite the United States investing billions in repairs, it has no say over the canal’s management. Trump framed this as a failure to protect American interests and sovereignty.
Turning his focus northward, Trump addressed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, criticizing Canada’s high taxes and suggesting an alternative vision for the country. He proposed that if Canada were to become the 51st state of the United States, taxes would be reduced by more than 60%, businesses would experience exponential growth, and the country would enjoy unmatched military protection. Trump’s remarks also touched on his long-standing interest in Greenland, reiterating its strategic importance to the United States for national security purposes. He claimed that the people of Greenland desire a stronger American presence and pledged to make it a priority during his administration.
In his Christmas message, Trump also directed criticism at President Joe Biden, specifically targeting Biden’s recent decision to commute the sentences of 37 federal inmates on death row. Trump described the move as emblematic of radical left-wing ideologies and vowed to reverse such policies by directing the Justice Department to vigorously pursue the death penalty once he assumes office. He argued that this would be essential for protecting American families and children from violent offenders.
Trump’s statement blended holiday greetings with a pointed critique of his political adversaries, emphasizing his vision for a stronger, more assertive United States on both the domestic and international stage. Through his remarks, he continued to outline the agenda and priorities he plans to pursue after his inauguration, while signaling his intent to revisit contentious issues with a firm and decisive approach.
He continued in a follow-up post:
“Merry Christmas to the Radical Left Lunatics, who are constantly trying to obstruct our Court System and our Elections, and are always going after the Great Citizens and Patriots of the United States but, in particular, their Political Opponent, ME,” Trump told his followers. “They know that their only chance of survival is getting pardons from a man who has absolutely no idea what he is doing. “Also, to the 37 most violent criminals, who killed, raped, and plundered like virtually no one before them, but were just given, incredibly, a pardon by Sleepy Joe Biden.”
Trump went on to say, “I refuse to wish a Merry Christmas to those lucky ‘souls’ but, instead, will say, GO TO HELL! We had the Greatest Election in the History of our Country, a bright light is now shining over the U.S.A. and, in 26 days, we will, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
Biden for his part sent out his own Christmas Day message to his social media followers for the last time as president, where he wrote: “it’s my honor to wish all of America a very Merry Christmas.”
“My hope for our nation, today and always, is that we continue to seek the light of liberty and love, kindness and compassion, dignity and decency,” Biden wrote. “May God bless you all.”
