Bill Maher Considers Leaving ‘Real Time’ Over Trump Fatigue
Bill Maher recently admitted to Jane Fonda on his Club Random podcast that he might quit his HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher due to the pressure of repeatedly discussing Donald Trump. Maher expressed frustration with having to talk about Trump, stating, “I’ve done it. I’ve seen this f—ing [thing play out].” He added that he feels “hostile” toward Trump, who Maher believes has a personal vendetta against him. The former president reportedly watches Maher’s show “accidentally” and frequently tweets insults, calling him a “low ratings loser.”
Despite Fonda’s suggestion that Maher could shift his focus away from Trump, Maher dismissed the idea, claiming that the political landscape, dominated by Trump, leaves little room for other discussions on his show. He also criticized the media’s portrayal of Trump and pointed out that the former president continues to dominate news cycles, making it difficult to avoid discussing him.
The conversation also turned tense when Maher clashed with Fonda over political views. Fonda disagreed with Maher’s suggestion about the Democrats losing the election over certain social issues, particularly the idea that a trans woman can get pregnant. Maher defended his stance, arguing that the far-left narrative on such topics is more widespread than Fonda acknowledged, and criticized her for being insulated from different perspectives due to her media consumption.
Fonda, in turn, stood by her position, asserting that the concerns Maher mentioned were a small segment of the far-left. The conversation reflected the growing divide between the two, with Maher frustrated by the ongoing political discourse and Fonda defending her viewpoint.
