Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared visibly tired during President Donald Trump’s latest press conference on Washington, D.C. crime — a speech critics said veered off-topic and dragged on far too long.
Pam Bondi Appears ‘Sad and Tired’ During Trump’s DC Crime Crackdown Announcement, Expert Says
During a White House press conference on Monday, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi stood alongside President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and FBI Director Kash Patel as the administration unveiled its plan to deploy National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., in a bid to combat drug-related crime.
While the event centered on the president’s sweeping crackdown measures, much of the public’s attention turned to Bondi herself. Online speculation quickly spread that the 59-year-old appeared both sad and fatigued during the announcement.
Body language expert Judi James supported those observations, telling the Irish Star that Bondi looked noticeably more subdued than her male counterparts on stage. “While Hegseth took on a bullish, confrontational pose — arms down, sharp gaze, ready to take on the challenge — Bondi maintained a far more passive stance,” James said. “Her hands were clasped in front of her torso, her eyes darting with a sadder expression.”
The president’s remarks were accompanied by the signing of two executive orders — one authorizing the deployment of the National Guard to target suspected drug organizations and street-level drug activity, with a particular focus on fentanyl, a synthetic opioid linked to the majority of U.S. overdose deaths.
James noted that Bondi’s facial expressions told a layered story. While she smiled at times and nodded in agreement when Trump addressed her directly, the expert pointed to subtle signs of fatigue: “Her gaze flickered, her blinks were longer, and she swallowed a few times in a way that suggested tiredness.”
Trump, speaking warmly and at length, referenced historic statues in need of protection and repeatedly sought Bondi’s acknowledgment during his remarks. James suggested the length and pace of the president’s speech — paired with a crowded, possibly overheated room — could have intensified Bondi’s weariness.
Social media reaction echoed these observations. “Pam Bondi looks sad or exhausted,” one X user wrote. Another asked bluntly, “What’s up with Pam Bondi’s face right now?”
Bondi has been immersed in a heavy workload for the Trump administration, spearheading legal efforts on a wide range of issues: immigration crackdowns, drug policy enforcement, challenges to diversity and inclusion initiatives, LGBTQ+ measures like transgender bathroom bans, and controversies tied to alleged antisemitic speech in the Israel-Palestine context.
Whether Bondi’s demeanor was due to the demands of her role, the atmosphere of the event, or the content of the president’s speech, her presence — quiet yet visibly affected — became one of the most talked-about aspects of the day’s high-profile announcement.
