Three Dead After Shooting at Austin Target Parking Lot; Suspect in Custody

At least three people are dead following a shooting Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a Target store in Austin, Texas, according to local authorities.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers were dispatched at 2:15 p.m. and arrived within four minutes to find three people with gunshot wounds in the lot. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third died later at the hospital, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services Director Robert Luckritz confirmed. A fourth person sustained non-gunshot injuries and received medical treatment.

Police said the suspect, who has a history of both criminal activity and mental health issues, stole a car at the scene before crashing it and hijacking a Volkswagen from a nearby dealership.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims or offered a possible motive.

The suspect was apprehended in south Austin after officers deployed a Taser to subdue him, Davis said.

“This is still an active investigation,” she added. “We’re working to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.”
