Pete Hegseth sparks huge backlash after reposting vile video of pastors saying women shouldn't vote | Irish Star

Outrage has erupted after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared a video showing pastors advocating for the repeal of women’s voting rights, sparking a fierce backlash from US and international politicians.

Users online have voiced their disgust this week after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared a video on X Thursday showing Christian nationalist preachers pushing for the scrapping of women’s voting rights.

Hegseth sparked a stern backlash after reposting the video of preachers from the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC), claiming women ought to “submit” to their husbands.

When he shared the highly controversial video, the ex-Fox News anchor captioned it with, “All of Christ for All of Life. “

One user’s response to the repost garnered over 12,000 likes, remarking: “Not sure about you, but drunken hack Pete Hegseth endorsing Christian nationalist pastors claiming women should no longer be allowed to vote – doesn’t sit well with me.”

Another responded to Hegseth’s repost, saying, “But what happens when your husband is a cheating drunk who left his first wife for his second wife but then got his mistress pregnant and then divorced the second wife to marry the third wife? Like at what point are you no longer qualified to lead the head of the household?”

“When the US Secretary of Defense calls for stripping women of the right to vote, you know this country is in great danger,” replied somebody else.

Meanwhile, New Mexico representative Melanie Stanley expressed disbelief at Hegseth’s repost of the disturbing segment.

“Just to be clear, this is the U.S. Secretary of Defense—who multiple women voted to confirm—sharing content advocating for women to not vote. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. This is why we must organize and stay in the fight!”

Journalist Gretchen Carlson claimed that the church featured in the segment is the same church Hegseth attends.

She said: “The ‘Christian’ church just featured on @CNN where men think 19th amendment should be repealed & women should not have the right to vote. Oh, & they’re also not equal. This is the church Secy of defense Pete Hegseth goes to. As a Christian, this is disgusting. Wake up, America.”

Meanwhile, the Freedom From Religion Foundation called out Hegseth for his “rallying cry for theocracy.”

They said, “Pete Hegseth promoting Doug Wilson, a Christian nationalist who openly calls for a biblical takeover of America, is a warning sign. The U.S. is a secular nation. We will fight to keep it that way.”

Politicians from overseas were also shocked by the alleged endorsement from Hegseth.

Retired Australian politician Doug Cameron wrote, “Why are we subjugating our nation to religious nuts like Hegseth who advocate “peace through strength”, medieval claptrap and warmongering? His mate Richard Marles needs to explain why he backs this dangerous psychopath while abandoning our sovereignty.”

The CNN segment in the clip Hegseth reposted features Doug Wilson, co-founder of the CREC, and highlights multiple ministers from the religious group calling for eliminating women’s voting rights from the Constitution.

On Friday, Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell informed The Associated Press that Hegseth is “a proud member of a church” connected to CREC and “very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson’s writings and teachings.”

The Defense Secretary has owned up to being a “serial cheater” in his relationships with women in the past. He also reached a cash settlement with a woman who accused him of sexual assault back in 2017.

However, these days, he claims to have turned over a new leaf thanks to being “truly changed by [his current wife] and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
